The body of the box is folded by hand from pressed cardboard boiled in linseed oil, which has a hardness comparable to that of wood. The ornamental material papier-mâché was especially popular among the artisans of ancient China. The painting was made using tempera paints prepared on the basis of natural pigments and emulsions in several stages.
