"Volkhovskaya" painting on wood has been known since the 19th century and is especially picturesque. Its peculiarity is the central element - the so-called "Volkhov" rose tree surrounded by leaves of various shapes. Bright original painting adorned household items of the Russian house and hand spinning wheels "gilded" and "painted".
The Volkhov rose tree is well recognizable thanks to the gradient brushstroke and rich colors. The painting is created simultaneously with two colors, one color, when applied, "passes" into another, creating a play of sunlight on the petals of plants.
In 2018, the products and traditional ornaments of the traditional Volkhov painting were recreated, a complete description of its elements, types of compositions, methods of applying the ornament, exact color and style solution was created.
In April 2019, in the place where the painting was used - the city of Volkhov, an enterprise was formed - Volkhovskaya painting LLC. Products with traditional Volkhov painting produced by the enterprise, by the decision of the Art and Expert Council for folk arts and crafts of the Leningrad Region, are classified as folk arts and crafts.
* All products are made by hand in the workshops of the company. Particular attention is paid to the accuracy of the workpiece manufacturing, grinding and final preparation for painting.
* The painting is applied manually by the craftsmen of the enterprise. Only natural paints are used - tempera of various colors, which is mixed in a special way to obtain a color scheme that fully corresponds to the historical shade.
* The composition is fixed on the wood with a special composition, which leaves a surprisingly natural feeling in the hands of each owner of a product with a genuine "Volkhov" painting.
