The ancestor of German-style board strategies The Colonizers (also called the "Catan Colonizers" or "Catan" in the West) is a German strategy board game created in 1995 by Klaus Teuber and one of the founders of the popular German board game style. Over the years, the game has earned dozens of world awards, a large number of sequels, versions and additions have been created. You have to land on the still empty, but resource-rich island of Katan, and colonize it. Of course, several groups of settlers will fight for the island, but only one will win, which will be able to use resources most efficiently and develop a thriving colony faster than others! Simple mechanics - an interesting process Despite the relative scale of the game, preparation for it lasts only 2-4 minutes, but the game itself - 50-60 minutes. First of all, it is necessary to close 6 fragments of the frame, then inside it to randomly place hexes (hexagonal cards) of territories with resources, on them - tokens with numbers. Katan Island is ready for colonization! Place piles of cards with resources next to the island - face up. There are 5 types of resources in the game: wood, wheat, sheep, clay and stone. Each hex brings one type of resource. Shuffle the stack of development cards and put it face down, when players buy them, they will not know what will be on the card. Then each player places the first 2 settlements and a road, receives his starting resources. The game begins - at the beginning of the turn, the player rolls the dice, all participants are looking for the sum of the values that fell on them on tokens with numbers on the island. Settlements bordering hexes with such numbers provide their owner with the corresponding resources. But if the dice rolls 7, robbers will come to Katan (where without them), who will occupy the hex selected by the player, take resources from the bordering settlement and block further production in this territory. The only way to move the robbers is to roll a 7 again or play the Knight card. Then players can perform the following actions in any order and quantity: build a road, settlement or city (the city brings 2 times more resources); buy a development card; play a development card; trade resources with any other player; exchange resources from the reserve (4 to 1, or at a more favorable rate if there is a harbor). Interesting! How to win? The goal in the Colonizers is to be the first to get 10 victory points in any of the ways: each settlement is worth 1 victory point, the city - 2; after building 5 roads or playing 3 knights, the player receives, respectively, the "Longest path" or "The largest army" card, each of which brings 2 more points; Victory points can be found in development cards. Who are the Colonizers for? Colonizers is a strategy game in which planning and interactions between players play an important role. However, there is also a high random factor: initial placement of resource hexes; placing tokens with numbers on these hexes; roll of dice; development maps. The colonialists, which have become real classics, are played out in the family circle, in the company of friends. First of all, it will be interesting for a small calm company that wants to have a pleasant time playing a game, in which one can think, plan, and actively communicate. The game is designed for 3 or 4 players aged 10 years and older. In fact, it can be played by two people, although the interest and conflict becomes much less. Do not be upset if your child, whom you raised specifically for board games, is only 7 or 8 years old - if he has already played various board games, he will quickly delve into the simple rules of the Colonizers.
