When the gingerbread industry appeared in Gorodets, it is difficult to establish, probably, in the XVII century. This fishery in the Nizhny Novgorod province was known in different places, but Gorodets became the most famous and largest center for baking gingerbread. Initially, gingerbread cookies were baked at home, later - in special gingerbread houses.

In the second half of the XIX century in Gorodets there were up to 15 bakeries, where several dozen varieties of gingerbread were baked, differing in size (from the smallest, so-called eateries, to the arshin ones) and taste.

The development of gingerbread in Gorodets was facilitated by the proximity of one of the main markets of the country - the Nizhny Novgorod Fair. At the end of the 18th century, Gorodets baked up to eight thousand pounds of gingerbread from Russian and Ukrainian honey. Later they began to bake sugar cakes and dough, flavoring the dough with raisins, mint, and other spirits.

From the Gorodets, the gingerbread boxes were taken along the Volga to the East as a gift from the fair and to the North to the Zyryan hunters of the Komi region for exchange for furs.

During the years of Soviet power, the Red Gingerbread Artel was organized, and the Gorodetsky food factory became the heir to it. In the late 60s of the 20th century, the food factory was given the old bakery building, which after reconstruction was put into operation in August 1968.

In the late 90s, the company was sold to a private person, who repeatedly changed the name and managers, which was in a fever of production, which ultimately led to a complete halt in production. The workers were sent indefinitely on administrative leave. At this difficult time for the enterprise, Anna G. Voronina, having already had a small but stable business by this time, was not afraid to take responsibility for the unique production, having signed a lease agreement with the owner and invested her own money, she literally revived the old craft.

At this time, the company is working steadily, the team is very close-knit and friendly. Constantly participates in fairs and exhibitions.

Our tasty products are made according to old recipes, almost by hand, from environmentally friendly raw materials, are in deserved demand among buyers.

The signature gingerbread Gorodetsky Souvenir is recognized as a product of folk arts and crafts.
