Any craft is famous for craftsmen, especially if there are only a few of them for the whole of Russia and they create priceless works of art.

So in the hands of the masters of Chkalovsky JSC "Guipure" is born as a real miracle! The range of products manufactured by the company is rich and diverse - bed linen and table linen, clothing, panels, interior items, souvenirs.

The artistic embroidery “Nizhny Novgorod Guipure” and the fact that they are made from natural linen are added to the value and popularity of these products.

At the end of the 19th century, a special type of line embroidery “by pulling out”, that is, on a grid, with the resounding name “guipure” (from the French word guipure - “through embroidery”) developed on the territory of the modern Chkalovsky district.

The basis for the pattern is a mesh from 0.5 to 0.8 cm in size, and this mesh (refet) is formed in the plain weave fabric itself in the billet workshop under the openwork. According to the pattern on the fabric, the layout of the future grid is outlined; when it is created, certain threads are cut and pulled out. Then the net is fixed by winding. Usually the color of the embroidery corresponds to the color of the fabric, but may vary in tone. And to create the pattern itself, the masters use traditional embroidery elements of guipure, there are about fifty of them, this is a kind of “embroidery alphabet”. The names of these elements are interesting: “pupa”, “forging”, “front sight”, “flooring”, “harrow”, “chain”, “shadow”, “mesh”, etc.

Due to the skillful combination of these elements, all the variety and richness of elegant and airy Nizhny Novgorod guipure is born.

This traditional craft is a unique phenomenon that deserves attention and serious support from the state. So by the resolution of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region No. 306 dated 10.21.2003, CJSC “Guipure” (Chkalovsk) was recognized as a particularly valuable object of cultural heritage of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

The products of Chkalov's craftswomen of CJSC “Guipure” constantly participate in All-Russian and foreign exhibitions and fairs and are popular both in Russia and abroad. Some products are exported to countries: Canada, Germany, America.
