According to one of the legends, a Buddhist figure, which was brought from Japan to a workshop near Moscow, became the prototype of the matryoshka. It was painted under the old sage, in which 4 figurines of his disciples were embedded. The figure immediately attracted the attention of the workshop workers, and already in 1890 a domestic doll appeared, which consisted of 8 brightly painted figures. And it got its name thanks to the name Matryona, which was widespread at that time. The painted doll reflected folk ideas about peace, goodness and beauty. Matryoshka combines such values as motherhood, family, unity and warmth.
