Easter, the bright resurrection of Christ, is the most solemn and greatest of all the holidays of the Christian church. Holy Easter, at the same time, is the most beloved national holiday, when the Russian soul, as it were, dissolves and softens in the warm rays of Christ's love. But they prepared especially carefully for the holiday in the village, which was more closely connected with folk rituals and customs. Maundy Thursday is the height of business, when women washed children, pets, and did laundry. By the evening of Great Saturday, all the household chores ended, and people hurried to church. At the end of the liturgy, people stood at the fence, holding Easter cakes in their hands, on which candles were burning. They were waiting for the clerk to come out, who was supposed to sprinkle these cakes with Holy Water.
