Orthodox pilgrimage in Russia exists since the baptism of Kievan Rus. And although places of pilgrimage can be found throughout the country, the traditional routes for pilgrimage in 2017 are: * Trinity-Sergius Lavra in the Moscow Region; * Solovetsky Monastery on the Solovetsky Islands; * Optina deserts in the Kaluga region; * Valaam Monastery in Karelia. Also, Orthodox pilgrims traditionally travel to the spiritual places of such ancient cities of Russia as Suzdal, Novgorod, Vladimir, Rostov-on-Don, Moscow.
