The history of the Zhostovo fishery dates back to the beginning of the nineteenth century, when workshops for the manufacture of painted lacquered items made from papier-mache arose in a number of Moscow villages and villages of the former Troitsky volost (now Mytishchi district of the Moscow region) - Zhostovo, Ostashkov, Khlebnikovo, Troitsky. The appearance of the Zhostovo painted tray is associated with the surname of the Vishnyakov brothers.
The main motive of the Zhostovo painting is a flower bouquet. In the original art of Zhostovo masters, the realistic sensation of the living form of flowers and fruits is combined with a decorative generalization that is related to Russian folk carpets on chests, birchbark tushes, spinning wheels, etc.
It was based on old designs of decorative flower compositions with a set of garden flowers ("collected bouquet", "bouquet in a stretch", garland, wreath.)
With a broad brush, the artist sketches the composition of the bouquet on the working surface of the tray. Creating a bouquet, the artist follows the beauty and expressiveness of the silhouette of flowers, buds, leaves and stems, behind the rhythmic arrangement of colorful spots.
Zhostovo bouquets inherent in the brightness of colors. Along with the traditional black background, red, blue, green, the edge of the tray is decorated with a light, lacy plant ornament.
In Zhostovo tray, the inspiration of the best masters of folk crafts is preserved, which carefully preserve exceptional centuries-old traditions and continuity. Luxury, authenticity and sensuality is a unique Zhostovo bouquet.
Each forged tray manufactured at the factory is assigned a special number. The quality of the forged tray is confirmed by a certificate. Forged trays are packed in a proprietary gift box of hand-made and gift bags. We invite you to discover the mysterious and exciting world of the traditional Zhostovo bouquet and enjoy the beauty and variety of colors.
How is the Zhostovo forged tray created?
Historically, the production of Zhostovo trays is hand forging (cold heaving). The master-cutter cuts the shape of a future tray with metal scissors, hammers the side with special hammers, aligns the field of the tray, and flexes the edge on a special machine.
Forms for 200 years accumulated more than 150, from miniature to huge - "tablecloth". Each shape is reconciled in its proportions. Variable fashion also dictates its rules - the tray can be deeper or shallower, and the tray wing is wider or narrower.
At present, the production of a part of the molds in the factory is mechanized: first, a piece of the desired size is cut from the iron sheet, then it is given a form, oval, round, rectangular, octagonal, and even "guitar". In this way, 32 trays are produced, and the remaining ones are still hand-forged.
After forging, the metal workpiece is degreased, shpatlyuetsya and thoroughly polished, and then gets an exceptionally smooth surface. The obligatory stage is the application of the primer over the metal. After this, the workpiece is covered with two layers of black enamel. Each layer of primer and enamel is thoroughly dried and ground.
Black lacquer and painting, covered with bright lacquer, came to Russia from Japan and China more than 400 years ago. Russian masters adapted the complex technology of the east to simple, affordable materials and achieved high-quality technological production.
Whichever way the painter paints - round, oval, figured, bouquets, in a stretch, wreaths - is painted by the painters all the same, the masters do their work in the order that has long been rooted here. Work with squirrel brushes and oil paint. The paint is bred with linseed oil, and the brushes are washed in turpentine. A set of large brushes - from quite thin with a needle to a large one. Each brush is worked under its own stroke. A brush is the master tool of the master, everyone has his own, by the arm and the manner.
The painting on Zhostovo trays is multilayered. The first layer - "zamalevka" - is timed to the end of the working day. Bloted paint scattered spots of flowers, leaves and buds in intricate composite solutions. Each spot in its place is harmoniously combined with the author's idea, and the shape of the tray. Further drying.
After drying, the artists begin the second stage of painting - "shadow". This is the application of a "transparent" (glossy) paint of dark parts of flowers and leaves. The third stage is "laying". Dense, opaque paint is highlighted by bright places, here and there appear details and forms of flowers, petals, buds, leaves. Next comes the "glare". Each master has its own: broad and soft, small and fractional. It is like a musical rhythm, which is similar to a slow chant, then to a fiery dance.
"Drawing" zhostovtsy called the outline of light contours of the edges of flowers, petals, buds, leaves. To make a "seed" is to write pistil stamens in flowers and buds. And finally "binding". Light tracery grass, which fills the voids between flowers and leaves, and as it binds the whole composition together. In some artists, pegging is plentiful, others have very little. Some make it bright, others fit into the background of the tray. The painting is finished. It remains to dry and hand over to the master - ornamentalist.
Artists and horsemen always have an idea about the creation of a new form of tray, which will organically fit into a number of classic Zhostovo products. This constant search, the creative initiative of artists and hawks, moves the craft to a new, modern, sought-after artistic product, without falling into kitsch and tastelessness.
