KRESTETSKAYA STROCHKA is a genuine folk craft, a material manifestation of the spiritual culture of the Russian people, which began to represent the Novgorod land.
For over a hundred years, the mastery of this fine embroidery has been passed down through the generations, carefully preserving its traditions, as well as seeking new methods.
Embroidery craft began to take shape in the Krestetsk region starting in the late 19th century, absorbing all the collective experience and skills of local needlewomen. In 1911, his products were exhibited at the first art and craft fair in Russia in St. Petersburg, which led to the emergence of unusual jewelry that is not found in any other embroidery tradition: first in the country and then in all of Europe.
Thus, at the beginning of the 20th century, the art of Novgorod artisans gained recognition at exhibitions in Turin, Port Said, New York, Montreal, Brussels, Osaka, Berlin. With the gradual growth of popularity and demand, the cottage industry has given way to cooperative artisan associations. Orders for household items, capes and draperies with distinctive embroidered designs came from the UK, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Sweden.
In the Soviet period, craftsmanship quickly developed, and the development of machine embroidery technology and production was transferred to factories.
Museum KRESTETSKAYA STROCHKA collects examples of pre-revolutionary and Soviet works from many regions. Despite the lack of material resources, artisans from different areas came together to find new solutions and bring ideas to life. Their work has won many awards and diplomas at fairs around the world. The factories worked without pause even during the Second World War, continuously producing masterpieces and perfecting the craft.
All major events that took place in the country are reflected in the works of artists. Some works created during this period are on display in museums in many countries.
During the long period of embroidery technology, many changes have occurred in Russian fashion and culture, but the KRESTETSKAYA STROCHKA technique never lost its appeal, retaining its uniqueness and staying in harmony with the times when it comes to home decor and clothing. The sophisticated methods of this thin linear embroidery were accumulated and preserved over time by dedicated craftsmen, so that they could become the basis for the modern incarnation of traditional jewelery.
Samples KRESTETSKAYA STROCHKA give a unique charm to the most ordinary things, attract attention, make people explore the weaving of the thread of the nest and impress with their lightness and variety. Towels, napkins and tablecloths, decorated with transparent ornaments, are delicate and practical. They bring life into your interior, filling it with sweet homeliness and elegant comfort. Embroidered elements fascinate you with seeming simplicity and restraint, creating a style without borders.
We are pleased to present you this unique heritage filled with sincere love and we hope to present elements of the original Russian beauty in our daily life.
