In 1970, on the farm to them. Lenin of the Koverninsky District, under the leadership of the Hero of Socialist Labor Vagin Mikhail Grigoryevich at that time, arranged small “dyes”, i.e. art workshops, which today are transformed into a modern workshop with all the necessary equipment for the production of products with Khokhloma painting.

The painted and gilded dishes got their name from the trade village of Khokhloma, where the products of local craftsmen were brought for sale. Here, in the XIX century, traded products of local craftsmen, hence the fame of the "golden" tree.

Initially, Khokhloma painting included only two colors: black and gold. This ware, which looked strictly and at the same time solemnly, decorated the royal and boyar feasts, it was presented to noble pilgrims in Russian monasteries. And in simple houses, plates, cups, dishes, covered with elaborate patterns, were put on the table only on holidays.

The products of the artists of Khokhloma LLC (Plemzavod im.Lenina) were repeatedly shown at many exhibitions and fairs.

Nowadays, the best artists are awarded with high awards of the Government:

- to the artist Ivanova Evdokia Nikolaevna by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated December 29, 10, was awarded the title "Honored Artist of the Russian Federation".

-Artist Gromova Valentina Nikolaevna by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated September 01, 12, was awarded the Medal of the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland”, II degree.

- Artist Olenina Elena Viktorovna, member of the “Union of Artists of Russia” since 2005, in 2014 received the honorary title “Honored Master of Folk Arts and Crafts of the Nizhny Novgorod Region”.

- the artist Sokolova Svetlana Nikolaevna in 2017 received the honorary title “Honored Master of Folk Art Crafts of the Nizhny Novgorod Region”.

Dishes with traditional Nizhny Novgorod Khokhloma patterns are usually perceived as colorful souvenirs, but there are many reasons to use them for their intended purpose:

o Ecological cleanliness guarantees safety for health.

o Butter and honey are better stored in such containers.

o Thanks to the varnish coating, the brightness of the colors does not get lost over time, things do not crack, do not break if dropped.

o Salty or sour food does not destroy the coating.

o Wooden spoons are more massive than metal ones, it’s more convenient for them to knead the dough, grind the curd Easter or gingerbread butter.

o Khokhloma utensils are not afraid of temperature changes; you can safely pour hot soup or put ice cream in such a plate.

But the main advantage remains the feeling of national identity, which gives Khokhloma painting. Pancakes and caviar look great on Shrovetide, Easter cake, sauerkraut, pies and other traditional Russian dishes served on the festive table in painted plates and bowls, from which it blows with the spirit of hospitality. And the daily meal becomes much more pleasant surrounded by beautiful things.

Today, Khokhloma LLC fully continues the traditions

LLC "Plemzavod im.Lenina" in the promotion of Khokhloma paintings, and this is the revival, preservation and development of the cultural heritage of the Koverninsky district of the Nizhny Novgorod region in the form of Khokhloma painting of wooden products in places of traditional life.
