Мастерская Сереброва / Kleine Box aus Paduk

The wooden box is a very modest but important instrument of the Russian folk orchestra. It is a small, oblong, carefully planed and even polished from all sides wooden, usually maple block with a small cavity under the upper part of the case, which serves as a resonator. The sound is produced with drum or xylophone sticks. Individual rhythmic points are emphasized with a box, imitating the sound of heels in dances. The box is absolutely indispensable in the transmission of the clatter of hooves, especially in combination with spoons or castanets.
