Beschreibung
Throughout Russia in the 19th century, peasants left their native villages to earn money on the side. The Vladimir province has long been famous for the skill of carpenters, bricklayers, plasterers, roofers and painters. In the 50s of the 19th century, 30 thousand carpenters and 15 thousand masons left the Vladimir province to work in Moscow, and up to several hundred thousand people were sent in large artels. They were called otkhodniks peasants. There were also peasants who were called "ofeni" - traders of small goods for delivery or delivery. They went mainly to villages and small towns. They traded from stalls in silk ribbons, needles, earrings, rings, popular prints, icons, etc. At the same time, they often tried to get to the fair. The peasants usually left for one winter, and at the end of Lent they returned home with gifts and money. Upon their return, they immediately took up land work.
